Integrating with Jira Cloud

FireHydrant can create tickets in Jira for each of your incidents, with linked tickets for actions performed during the incident and follow-ups for later. This way all of the actions proposed during an incident are tracked in your existing project management workflows, and project managers can estimate and schedule follow-up work.

Setting up Jira integration

Setting up integration requires authorizing our OAuth2 application if you're using Jira Cloud. (FireHydrant is an OAuth2 application, available in the Atlassian Marketplace.) You can choose the type of tickets you want to create and then set your target project.

To get started:

  1. A FireHydrant organization admin must add our Jira Cloud integration and authorize it in Jira Cloud. This requires that the authorizer is a Jira Cloud administrator.
  2. Configure the default issue type for incidents, tasks (actions during incidents) and follow-ups (work to perform after the incident is resolved).
NOTE: You must select issue types from the project where FireHydrant will create your tickets.
  3. Set the type of relationship to use when linking action items to incident tickets. ie follow-ups can 'block' incidents ensuring that all follow-ups are completed before an incident ticket can be completed.

Configuring Webhooks

To see updates to your tickets reflected in FireHydrant, add a Webhook to Jira. You can open Webhook configuration from the left navigation panel by clicking Jira Settings > System > WebHooks.

A direct link to the configuration page can also be found on the connection in FireHydrant.

Project Setup

FireHydrant creates tickets in a single project that can be specified within the JIRA configuration settings.

Now you're ready to create action items in FireHydrant and sync them to Jira.

Note: We do not support required custom fields at this time. If you'd like to experiment with our integration, create a new project without the required custom fields. Please reach out to us to share your use cases with required fields!
